Do Big Things x Netroots Nation 2023

Return to Blog

We’re heading to Chicago! Three DBTers will be presenting at this summer’s Netroots Nation conference in the Windy City, and we hope you’ll tune in (or come in person) to hear the expertise on our team on Artificial Intelligence, Email fundraising, and Latino outreach.

First up, our Founder Cheryl Contee will present on Artificial Intelligence and the Future Of Digital Organizing — and not a moment too soon (we promise CHatGPT didn’t write this blog post).

Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, OpenAI, ChatGPT, chatbots, and more are already allowing computers to understand and communicate with people well enough to allow us to organize digitally at a growing scale, with message language and framing that is better matched to how our audience is already talking about our issues or candidates. Being able to do that, especially at scale, is the key to successful campaign organizing. Is AI the answer to all (or even some) of our questions? Is it the answer to questions we don’t even think to ask? Come and join our conversation: Thursday, Jul. 13 at 2:30 PM (Central) in Continental A.

Next up, our VP of Creative Services Janani Sreenivasan will present on the topic of Small and Steady Wins the Race: Microstorytelling for Campaigns

Janani, a theatre director in her spare time, recently used microstorytelling to promote and create community around one of her plays, and believes that campaigns and causes can use it just as successfully by thinking smaller. Janani believes powerful, memorable stories don’t require massive monitors, video shoots and thousands of dollars: instead, you can mobilize 100 supporters to tell a tale in 15-second segments, or create tweets, teasers and small pitches that capture the mood, spirit and flavor of your campaign. Microstorytelling is scalable, sustainable, phone-based and makes digital organizing a group effort rather than a losing battle for a few tired staffers. Be a part of it: Saturday, Jul. 15 3:45 PM in Williford A.

Finally, Senior Advisor Catherine Algeri, the first Latina to head up digital for  Democratic Party Committee, will speak on both email fundraising and building Latino communities.

Catherine’s panel Building Latino Communities: Say Goodbye to the One-Size-Fits-All Approach, examines how to build partnership with Latin communities in a way that’s specific, culturally competent, and sustainable.

In this panel you’ll hear directly from panelists at Earthjustice, Somos Votantes, and Way to Win about their work to build Latino communities online. Whether it’s starting with on-the-ground partnerships, working with specific diasporas at launch or fighting misinformation, you’ll gain concrete insights about how you can build authentic partnerships within Latino communities.

Join us in person: Thursday, Jul. 13 at 4:00 PM (Central) in Salon C-5/6.

Meanwhile, Catherine’s training, on What to Do When Your Digital Fundraising Program Hits a Plateau, examines what to do when your email program has run for years, when your audience has subsided from Trump-era levels of giving, and it’s time to refresh the playbook. Catherine will share her expertise on creating “moments” for digital, recovering lapsed donors and acquiring new ones, engaging your audience through visuals and merchandise, and other ways to take your program to the next level. Hear Catherine speak: Thursday, Jul. 13 9:00 AM (Central) in Williford A.

We look forward to seeing you virtually and in person in Chicago!
