Here's Our Pregame Sneak Peek for RootsCamp

Return to Blog

We’re heading to RootsCamp and we are excited! It’s an amazing unconference put on by the good folks at the Wellstone Action. DBT’s board member Roz Lemieux helped pioneer RootsCamp back when she was the founding Executive Director of New Organizing Institute (NOI). Do Big Things has three team members headed there tomorrow and they’d love to meet up with you, so look out for them there or send a Tweet on the #Roots18 hashtag!

We’re Cooking Up Some Sizzlin’ Sessions

We have some great session ideas we’re proposing! Here’s a sneak preview for you:

Census 2020: how to talk about it and make it count!

—> Shawn & Ryanne will share how to effectively talk about the census and encourage participation to communities of color in fun and engaging ways … think: using pop culture references and millennial phrases that light up people’s eyes.

Townhall—labor union messaging post-Janus

—> Shawn & SEIU will share how to engage union and non union members in social justice issues using real life messages and images that reflect our values. You might not know that unions help young people, did you? But to do that well young people need to see themselves reflected.

The power of creative in digital ads for beautiful, high performing campaigns

—> Ryanne & Reed will show how people can use design to build beautiful, high-performing digital campaigns. We’ll walk people through the narrative of building a specific campaign image from beginning to end and, along the way, we will talk about audience, metrics, etc. and show examples.

Who’ll Be There from Our Team?

Meet Shawn Bryant

@Shawn__B
As Director of Strategic Projects & Digital Storytelling at Do Big Things, Blessitt Shawn Bryant (pronouns: they/theirs) uses evidence-based digital tactics and traditional organizing principles to create online movements that spur communities to action, and helps the world’s leading nonprofits, foundations and social enterprises, such as the NAACP, The San Francisco Foundation, and NBC, design digital ecosystems that create change globally. Blessitt’s commitment to social justice extends beyond the office—they are also a community organizer and a leading voice on “WYD Weekly?,” a podcast of #WeBuiltThis – an online community celebrating Black brilliance in culture, art, and politics.

Meet Ryanne Brown

@ryannebrown
Ryanne is Vice President of Digital Advertising at Do Big Things, and believes that seeing is believing: the images we see in our world reflect our collective perspective, and we can raise up the voices and organizations who are pushing the boundaries of that perspective (in a good way, of course). To that end, Ryanne brings a decade of experience in nonprofit advertising to Do Big Things, where she works with clients to determine their digital marketing and advertising goals and designs strategic media plans to help achieve those goals, whether they be to win an election, grow an online community, or increase brand presence online.

Meet Reed Dudley

@reeddudley
Reed is a Designer on our team and enjoys using design and visual storytelling to connect people to causes and campaigns that matter. Most recently, she served as Content Designer for 270 Strategies, where she designed and produced social media graphics, emails, and videos for clients like the ACLU, Texas Children’s Hospital, and iVote for America, as well as several electoral campaigns. (She even designed a few billboards!) Reed came to 270 from a boutique digital firm in Washington, DC where she helped clients like Planned Parenthood, Governor Kate Brown, and EMILY’s List break through the noise with innovative, award-winning web design and ad creative.
See you there!]]>
