We Support #StopHateForProfit

At Do Big Things, we are experts at helping causes and campaigns engage millions of people on Facebook and Instagram in the U.S. and around the globe to create a better world for all. We believe that Facebook and Instagram have become important battlegrounds of ideas and information. These platforms shape opinions and policies that make a difference in everyday people’s lives. The #StopHateForProfit boycott campaign represents an opportunity to urge Facebook to act and create more safety and dignity especially for communities of color. DBT’s staff is 50% BIPOC and our clients represent diverse communities. Thus, we feel personally impacted.

Misinformation and miscreants have been allowed to proliferate on Facebook’s properties, despite Facebook’s stated commitment to Community Standards of authenticity, safety, privacy and dignity. Facebook’s own civil rights audit urged the company to do more. That’s why we support the #StopHateForProfit boycott campaign urging advertisers to pause their ads for the month of July to encourage Facebook to take stronger action against hate, discrimination and violence on their platforms. Two of our recent client partners, NAACP and Color of Change, are leading this campaign and we couldn’t be prouder of our work to empower their teams in the fight for social and racial justice.

Now more than ever, it’s important that the work of political campaigns and nonprofits who are fighting for racial justice make their voices heard on as many platforms as possible. We commend corporate advertisers who are taking a step back in the month of July to let cause-focused advertisers share their messages, engage people online and organize communities.

StopHateForProfit.org’s website has this counsel for nonprofit organizations:

“We recognize that nonprofits may not be able to pause their ads because of the need to amplify their work, and we welcome their support whether or not they decide to pause their spending. Stop Hate for Profit is not asking organizations or political campaigns—especially organizations fighting for racial justice—to stop running Facebook ads. If your non-profit organization is interested in joining in support of the Stop Hate for Profit effort, please contact us.”

If you’re interested in navigating a Facebook-less world, our team can help you explore other options. Our team of ad strategists have deep knowledge of various platforms that can help ensure your ads are in front of the right audience, at the right time. We’re here to help.
